Musical duo Rachael & Vilray caught my attention in an NPR interview and live in studio performance.
It was like stepping back to the golden age of the Mills Brothers,Les Paul and Mary Ford , Doris Day and Julie London in the 1950’s.
Suffice to say I was impressed that this New York based music duo were releasing albums of new music!
Indeed - they have crafted an impressive series of albums with new original compositions -inspired by American standards from the 30’s,40’s and 50’s - but still keeping it fresh and current as well.

The New York Times have described them as “easy-swinging, cozy and sophisticated” - and indeed Vilray’s smooth jazz guitar (he is a great player!) and his vocals- plus Rachael’s effortless and timeless vocals - are a wonderful combination-especially the harmonies.
They have a very satisfying sound - with the tunes standing up without always needing a bigger arrangement.
