Delta Stardust: Snakes Made of Light - a cosmic and rootsy debut album

Hailing from Memphis and North Mississippi - this band draws from the deep historical soulful roots of this area - but they explore progressive psychedelic themes by combining acoustic as well as electronic instruments.

The result is a brand new genre that defies pre-conceived notions of strict musical genres staying in their own lane.

There is a sense of adventure that anything is possible in the arrangements : Owl in My Backyard for example has a cosmic hypnotic 3/4 feel augmented with mandolin trills - that is not bowing to any aesthetic convention “to fit in”.

Instead it stands out in its own unique genre and takes you on a pastoral journey.

More pressing subjects are tackled-including the gritty realism of Memphis Tattoo - recounting the legacy of gun crime and injury in the city.

You hear the DNA of influential popular music - to my ears you hear echoes of The Band ,Fairport Convention, The Faces and Pink Floyd in the songs.

Delta Stardust features Michael Graber, the band’s chief songwriter, and album was recorded at Seahorse Studio, co-produced by Graber and John Kilgore (engineer and band member).

They call their genre Roots Psychedelic music - give it a listen for it will take you on the path less travelled.
