“Fish Out Of Water” - Chris Squire’s Majestic Album from 1975.

Recorded and released in 1975 this was Yes bassist and founder Chris Squire’s one and only solo record outside the band.

Working in collaboration with Andrew Pryce Jackman, a childhood friend and keyboardist/composer, who assisted with the album's conception and orchestration.

Apparently Squire offered to give Jackman co-writing credits - though Jackman declined.

Nonetheless this is truly a majestic and original work, really its its own unique genre - encompassing Squires trademark growling Rickenbacker bass playing in varied time signatures like 7/8 set against orchestral and jazz back drops.

Personnel included Yes band members from different eras : Bill Bruford and Alan White (drums) / Patrick Moraz (keys) - as well as session ace Mel Collins on sax and members of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Squire weaves his wonderful Yes vocal melodies through the arrangements and the compositions are in their own genre - majestic and progressive at the same time.

Definitely a big influence on me - as I would later purchase a Rickenbacker 4001 bass and use the same Marshall amplification to weave my own bass lines.

This album lands at that peaceful moment in 1975 -when solo records by major prog rock band members could be heard and promoted- just a few short years before ‘Year Zero’ and the changing of the guard by the Punk and New Wave revolution that was about to happen!
