Released 60 years ago in 1965 - this influential Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass album seemed to be the soundtrack of the time - even outselling the Beatles.
His whole approach from “The Lonely Bull "album in 1962 was counter to jazz and pop - with instrumental versions of current pop hits and a catalog of Mexican themed instrumentals.
These tunes would pop up as theme music on TV in commercials as well as 70’s TV game shows -the music seemed everywhere.
Definitely the soundtrack to anyone growing up in the 60’s and 70’s.

Classics such as “A Taste of Honey” and the memorable strip tease song “Love Potion No.9” reflected the racy album cover.
However it was the sheer musicianship of a cracking band led by Herb - and the memorable melodies that would endure.

Herb Alpert founder of A&M Records with Jerry Moss is remarkable - and would go on to have more hits - notably a rare vocal performance in "This Guy's in Love with You" - a 1968 number 1 hit song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Being unorthodox , being original and defying what is expected is indeed what makes this album so special.
