Hullabaloo TV Show - mid 60’s American Music Television Treasure!

Continuing the theme of forgotten but influential 1960’s TV music shows - we have Hullabaloo.

Broadcast on NBC from 1965-66 and directed by Steve Binder of Elvis ’68 Come Back Special fame.

Guests included Chuck Berry , Mamas and The Papas , The Yardbirds , The Supremes and segments from the Beatles taped in London. Beatles manager Brian Epstein also introduced up and coming British acts to an American audience via these taped segments.

The scale and breadth of the artists is a revelation and shows how formulaic all aspects of todays TV , streaming services and the music industry have become, by having rigid playlists and strongly defined genres for programing -versus a more fluid approach to all the musical styles being presented at the time.

Tragically many of the original color broadcast video master tapes were wiped in the early 70’s -though much was dubbed to black and white and is available to see.

Check it out - this was required viewing for all musicians -and highly influential alongside the other great 1960’s music shows such as Shindig -and Ready Steady Go in the UK.
