Keziah Jones and his dynamic “Blufunk” sound

Keziah Jones came to my attention in about 1992 when his first album “Blufunk Is a Fact” was released.

Blufunk has been described as a unique combination of raw blues and hard edgy funk rhythms-similar to slap bass.

His Nigerian roots also echo Yoruba music as well as soul influences.

His guitar style is percussive which adds to the rhythmic dynamics of the songs.

Living in Paris and London, he busked on the streets and in London on Portobello Road and the Underground .

Eventually he was noticed by ex-Culture Club keyboard player Phil Pickett and given an opportunity with Chrysalis Music and subsequently the Delabel label where he recorded his first album.

The album “Blufunk is a Fact” and the first single "Rhythm Is Love” attained worldwide recognition.

Keziah has described his influences as diverse as : Fela Kuti , Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix.

Keziah also paints and makes short films.

His life on the streets busking left an indelible imprint on his art and he is still producing music.

A unique and exciting performer.
