The music of UK musician Labi Siffre, defied all boundaries , was unique to him and could uplift and galvanize emotions from subject matter that was in our ordinary lives.

His early 70’s heyday included hits such at “It Must Be Love’ - later covered by Madness - both versions big hits.
In fact on British TV in the early 70’s he was as familiar a sight as Elton John.
Stylistically his original songwriting covered soul , folk, soft rock and more - but the imprecise labels do not do him justice.
His tunes are recognizable - but worldwide fame and universal appeal are really there only for those discovering his work- or who remember the albums when they came out.
Needless to say- thankfully the record industry as it was back then, was able to nurture such talents.
In 1985 after a period of semi retirement from music - and stirred by the ongoing apartheid injustice in South Africa, Siffre released more albums including the hit single “Something Inside So Strong”
His work has been sampled by newer artists.
He has also written plays , poems and essays observing racial and social inequality.
