Icelandic singer Laufey delivered one of my favorite albums of 2025 with “A Matter of Time”.
I originally discovered this talented songwriter and musician on Instagram reels with stripped down versions of her “Great American Songbook” and bossanova themed songs (just vocal and guitar).
This album however, is fully produced with an array of classical instruments and lyrically she really digs into the human emotion and insecurities that we all feel.
She explores relationships and aspirations and really digs into her sensitive side.
Previous albums were more about paying homage to her jazz influences - but this record covers a gamut of styles and instruments.
Stylistically it covers jazz swing , late 50’s doo-wop ,waltzes and even Broadway theater tunes -to my ears.
Wonderfully produced , its a sumptuous album that looks back in time - but is also very contemporary too.
