Minnesota Mike is a singer-songwriter based in Memphis,TN.

His style is confessional ,honest and always tells a story with a touch of irony and humor thrown in too!

He is inspired to write every day and offers song coaching ideas via blogs in his capacity at Memphis Songwriters Association and his You Tube channel (see below for links).

In his own words :

“I draw inspiration from any song that tells a compelling story-regardless of genre.”

He adds:

"As a writer, I am also inspired by every day conversations I have with people, that turn into great lines in songs.”

These are indeed fertile song ideas for any writer.

Regarding inspiration for his writing , Bob Dylan has always been a primary influence , but other artists too, such as Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen are in there.

Regarding writing method, he states:

“The lyrical idea always comes first, and then I find what I call the melodic line of best fit.”

His focus is telling the story in the Dylan way.

He has produced for albums plus the catchy single “Same Phone Number” recorded with local Memphis artist Kris Acklen.

The “Cinco De Mike-O” album released in 2019 was recorded with Andrew Cabigao at Dynamic Score Records,Memphis  and has a fuller production and features songs about airport drama in “Baggage Claim” - with a early 80’s Cars vibe and a sense of irony!

His primary focus is his original tunes and he states:

“I don’t play 100% originals, but my covers are guided by the songs I write.”

Mike is also super supportive in the Memphis music community and is always a keen supporter of all artists and attends many shows and listening events.

Mike expresses exactly what he feels and how he see’s the world and that’s what art and music is all about : a reflection of life.
