The Mose Allison Sings album from 1963, is a great starting point for any listener looking to appreciate the understated style of the late great jazz pianist and singer Mose Allison.
Witty and laid back, the album comprises of tracks from his earlier albums - notably "Parchman Farm” , "Young Man's Blues” "Your Mind Is on Vacation” and "The Seventh Son”.

Probably his most famous track is "Young Man's Blues” - covered by the Who and presented on record in all its glory on “Live at Leeds” in 1970.
Consequently his work was exposed to a much wider rock audience who no doubt dug into the back catalog.
Other artists as diverse as John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers to Elvis Costello have also covered Mose Allison.
Mose was a gifted songwriter and socially aware lyricist who could comfortably straddle jazz and blues in his own way - as well as interpret other writers to great effect.
