This wonderful LP (her second) really is a genre hopping masterwork.

She covers jazz and standards , show tunes as well as gospel and blues and some theater.

Orchestral arrangements come via Bob Mersey who would work with the first Aretha Franklin LP a few short years later at CBS in her jazz period.

Its less piano driven and whilst some may balk at this - I like it ,as it brings a wonderful sonic journey with the string arrangements.

Her deep musical virtuosity shines through.

Schooled is classical performance and technique, there’s something for everyone.

Later reissues would include “My Baby Just Cares for Me” and other tracks recorded earlier.

A surprise huge hit in the 80’s its a sublime mix of jazz with classical overtones.
