Italian TV personality and singer Orietta Berti (born 1943) has had a successful career in mainland Europe and in her own country - however not widely known outside of there.
Typically - mainland European or Nordic artists have to release records in English to get on the radar overseas.
Sometimes they can get worldwide acclaim for example Swedens Abba in the 1970’s.
Abba is of the same generation as Orietta Berti - both artists getting their start in 60’s European and Scandinavian folk and pop.

Berti began her career in 1962 and her first hit in 1965 in Italy with
"Tu sei quello" (You're the one).
Stylistically her songs were about everyday life eg.
"Fin che la barca va" (As long as the boat goes) - meaning: to be content with what you have and not wanting more that could make you lose everything.
Musically her style covered 60’s folk , pop and traditional Italian dancing songs with accordion.
I became familiar with her on TV and record in the early 70’s during the many visits to northern Italy to visit family.
Her album “Cantatele con me” (1973) is particularly memorable and taps into old Italian popular song tradition - soaring melodies and a stomping backbeat riding on a wave of accordion!
Signed to several major labels including Polydor - she was a fixture at the famous San Remo Music Festival from the 60’s to the present time.
She has sold over 15 million records.
Go check her out - its a snapshot into another world of Italian pop and folk music - and it may just resonate with you!
