Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood- a story of redemption by Koren Zailckas

This book chronicles her real struggle with alcohol from the age of 14 until her early 20’s.

College life then work life and the expectation -especially in her work life in NYC -that alcohol was an expected part of growing up - and potential career advancement.

This dilemma of doing something to excess that can benefit ,yet destroy you at the same time- is intriguing and an interesting viewpoint.

This was a New York Times best seller in 2005.

It is a great read - as Koren describes her lapses in judgment and her increasing unravelling due to excessive drinking, in great detail.

She examines the slow creep of dependence and the effect on her physical and mental wellbeing.

Its clearly written and her story and writing style of self analysis, is original and thought provoking.

She is now a successful author and has published several other books.
