The Sound of Mac Roy’al -The Smooth Soulful Emotion of his Music

Memphis based soul singer Mac Roy’al has been garnering a respected following of admirers for his smooth and soulful music releases.

Originally born in Las Vegas - but raised in Memphis , Mac cultivated his love for music from a young age singing in church and talent contests.

Working in a number of groups including “Adagio” which had national success - and other cutting-edge gospel groups - Mac decided to go solo and Mac Roy’al was born.

His first LP “Royal Soul Vol 1” was released in 2018 with well produced and smooth singles “Thug Passion 2.0” and “Sweet Tooth”.

Sweet Tooth” in particular is a sensual throwback to the seventies complete with LP vinyl hiss to start the track, and a great seductive feel with lyrics and arrangement.

His vocal style is so smooth and all the tracks are accessible to a wide audience - not just lovers of modern R&B or hip hop.

Mac explains his writing approach as follows:

“I pretty much write about whatever I'm going through at the time..whether it's painful, exciting or frustrating..the key is transparency & raw emotion. People love when you are genuine with them and they can feel when the emotion is pure.”

Mac definitely puts you in the chill zone - and that’s his strength as a vocalist and working with compatible producers and collaborators to bring the projects to fruition.

Additionally the beautifully composed and edited videos that accompany the tracks accentuate the emotion of the songs.

Regarding inspiration and what to write about Mac describes it like this:

"I always try and challenge myself to write about subject matter that's somewhat unexplored.

Inspiration is vital to any artist..it's kinda like the gas that makes the car run..& it's all around us everyday, you just have to pay attention..life is full of different kinds of stories & I really get a kick out of expressing those stories to people through the gift of music."

I think Mac succeeds - there is an emotion and a sound in all his songs that anyone can relate to.

For me - he brings the showmanship of Las Vegas and the church and gospel roots of Memphis and combines them.

Thats the magic of his style and we are looking forward to hearing more new original Mac Roy’al music in the future!
